My Favorite Fonts and Typefaces and Thoughts on the Importance of Drawing Letterforms

Typography is a weird study within the design world. Some designers are hyper-focused on type and have actually designed typefaces or built entire careers on lettering. Other designers study it in school and use it in their daily work but admit to sticking to a top 5 and do not stray from their loyal senses. Personally, I like to consider myself somewhere in between the extremes.

I enjoy getting nerdy about type and trying to guess which font is used in certain designs but I do not get crazy about it. One of the ways I have trained myself outside of the classroom is to actually do the work of drawing and illustrating letterforms. I've learned how to draw letters to manipulate elements for logo design and more. In this video, I review several fonts that are my personal favorites (right now) and give some insight into what I am looking for when choosing typography. All the fonts I discuss in this video are available in the

Adobe CC font library. https://creativecloud.adobe.com

Some of the fonts I enjoy:

Helvetica Bold

Baskerville Regular
