Ink Draw Down on Plastic - What is a BOPP?

I helped a teammate at PetSmart to check a brand color — I know that is vague--- but I technically can’t give away the company's private info. This photo above is a color target up against an ink color on plastic with a black color isolator (any solid black paper with a punch-out). The color is a great match to the color target because if you look closely inside the black square you can see two different samples and they are extremely close so much so they nearly blend. But as I was looking at this ink drawdown I noticed the word BOPP and had to ask what it meant.

BOPP stands for biaxially-oriented polypropylene. What the heck is that? and what does it have to do with packaging?

The Biaxial is the stretch quality and the polypropylene is the plastic form. It is the reason why we can stretch plastic over any shape of the packaging. Another core reason is the BOPP material has low toxicity which makes it perfect for food packaging.

Since I am learning with you on this topic I will simply link you to the source for my curiosity. Here is a great article on BOPP: https://www.uprinting.com/blog/bopp/
