I wanted to share this article today (link above) because explains how SNL manages their talent. It is important that managers recognize the uniqueness of managing creative types and how to harness the creative power in front of them. What I enjoyed about reading this Fast company article is that we tend to forget the behind the scenes work it takes to get high talent such as the SNL cast to work together and create awesomeness as a team.

Because we tend to condense massive amounts of information, I have often felt condensed as a person by managers in various jobs I have held. Of course, I cut them a huge break because.. um.. yeah I think managing people is hard. When they try to apply a blanket managerial style they are missing out on the potential each person has to share. Recognizing individual talents creates an atmosphere that encourages the individual to achieve greater things.
