This video breaks down the magic behind the brand everyone knows and loves — Trader Joe’s! This down-home grocery store is anything but.. it is a national chain yet when you walk into a Trader Joe’s you can’t help but feel you are in a local mom-and-pop grocery. The trick to their success is a “less is more” strategy which enables TJ’s to focus on high-quality items.

I shop at TJ’s because there are unique items here that are not available in other stores. Their candies, spices, alternative milk options, and other snacks are some of my go-to items. Also, in a normal grocery, I am not a fan of frozen food, but TJ’s frozen section is amazing. So they converted me to something that I swore off as not liking at all.

One of the strong appeals the video above cites is TJ’s distinct local vibe. If you have had a chance to see the stores in different cities then you soon learn how they style each store to show off these differences. I have shopped at several different stores and enjoy purchasing their re-usable bags that have unique illustrations to show off the region. My local store in Arizona has cactus skeleton’s covering the pillars in the interior.

Here you can see the bag from Arizona and another from Washington State. Each is beautifully illustrated with iconic imagery from the region. The mermaid and crab for Seattle and Sun beams and orange and red tones for Arizona. Excellent!
